As a son of Guy, Kristof grew up in a football setting. He breathed football, but a debilitating injury quickly forced him to hang up his boots. Nevertheless, his passion for the game remained strong and Kristof followed in the footsteps of his father as a sports broker.
He never played at the highest level, but looks at football with an expert’s eye. His expertise also makes him stand out.
He does not approach new players as clients, but takes the time to get to know them. He takes into account their interests, background and ambitions. That is how he helps young, talented football players find their way in the professional world of football.
For 20 years, Guy played in the Belgian premier league. He wore the shirt of Standard Luik, Germinal Ekeren, and RWDM. As captain of Standard, he achieved his greatest success: two national titles, one Belgian Cup, and two Super Cups.
As a midfielder, Guy combined commitment and goal-scoringability. His drive and affability endeared him to the press and the public. He played 17 caps for the national team.
Driven by his passion for football, Guy started working as sports broker after his football career. He has been guiding players on their way to a successful career for 15 years now.
To give his best, a player has to feel good, physically and mentally, and that is where Cherry Sports comes in. It goes without saying that support from family and friends is also indispensable.
The search for the right club is important, but follow-up care and support even more. At Cherry Sports, we keep a close eye on the development of all our players. Match reports, training supervision, interviews, even mental coaching is an option, if required by the player.
Our collaboration is based on mutual trust and respect. Our ultimate objective? To build a long-term relationship.
Modern football is more than just the sport. At Cherry Sports, we are aware of that and the financial aspect.
Fans like to identify with their idols and the business world is very eager to take advantage of that. Cherry Sports monitors the business market and seeks commercial opportunities for all its players.
It goes without saying that the greater the sports success and prestige of the contracting club, the more attractive the opportunities will be. This may generate extra revenue for the player inquestion in the form of sponsor deals and attract the attention of new clubs.
A recent UK study shows that three in five football players have to deal with financial problems aftertheir active sports career. Out of the blue, young football players often have to face immense financial questions. At Cherry Sports, we counsel our players to handle them sensibly.
To that end, we work with a financial organization that has the required knowhow. That is why a tailor-made financial plan is no luxury.
Taking out appropriate insurance is also key. Injuries are inherent to playing football and sooner or later, everyone will have to face them. With a good insurance, players will not need to worry and can spend all their time and energy on rehabilitation.
Professional football players are often in the spotlight. The media play a key role in this. We also pay attention to the way in which a young football player should handle that attention.
What can I say, how can I say something, what should I keep to myself, etc. We also advise our players to consider their handling of social media such as Facebook and Twitter. To the fans, those channels are a unique way to get closer to their idols. However, comments filtered through the social-network sites are quickly picked up by all kinds of media. “News” continues to spread at an increasing rate and can be very damaging to a player’s image. And image damage is still difficult to control. That is why Cherry Sports insists on pointing out the possible dangers of social-media use to all its players.
